Matter is composed of atoms, and atoms have three basic building blocks: protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons have a positive charge, and neutrons have no charge. Protons and neutrons are in the nucleus of the atom. Electrons whiz around the center of the atom forming the electron cloud. Electrons have a negative charge.
