A sandbox can have multiple pages (called cards). A stack of cards can be played as a slideshow. You can turn any object on the canvas into a button by linking it to other cards in the sandbox. That means you can use a sandbox to make interactive documents and games. A sandbox has two modes: Draw and Play. Draw mode is where you edit the sandbox. Play mode presents the cards as a slideshow. I’m impressed with the collaboration controls in a sandbox. You can set permissions for the entire sandbox and set permissions for each card. A teacher can make some cards read-only and others collaborative. You can even set it so that students can add new objects but cannot delete existing objects. Padlet has an Jamboard importer, so you can convert what you’ve created in Jamboard and use it in Padlet Sandbox. If you're already a Padlet subscriber, Sandbox is a great alternative to Jamboard. However, free Padlet users are limited to a combined total of only 3 padlets and sandboxes. So, if you're not a subscriber, Padlet probably is not a suitable replacement for Jamboard.
