Mobile Web - Create Sites

Creating your own mobile site can be very helpful. It could serve as a homepage for you or for students. Often it's easier to add a link to a homepage than it is to enter the address on a mobile device.

If you know HTML or use HTML software like Dreamweaver of NVU, you could make your own mobile site and post it to a web server. Here are some tips:

  • Avoid complex formatting
  • Limited use of tables
  • Link to other mobile sites
  • Include a limited number of images
  • Images are scaled down for a small screen and for a small file size
  • Do not include audio or video
  • Break up long pages into a series of shorter ones
  • Text is in one column
  • Learn from other mobile sites. Here are some samples.

If you don't want to mess with HTML, there are free online services that can help you build a mobile site. Each one has different features and options. You might choose one or two to meet your needs.
